At the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
(UIUC), the preparation of public school teachers, school leaders,
and school service personnel is an all-campus responsibility.
Governance of the professional education preparation programs rests
with the
Council on Teacher Education (CTE), the UIUC Professional Education
Unit. Membership includes, but is not limited to, the deans of
the Colleges of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences;
Applied Health Sciences; Education; Fine and Applied Arts; Liberal Arts
and Sciences; the Graduate College; Graduate School of Library and
Information
Science; and the School of Social Work.
The general policy making
body of the CTE is the Executive Committee. Members of the
Executive Committee are individuals designated by
each dean or director holding membership in the CTE. In addition,
one faculty member, one clinical experiences program coordinator,
two P-12 school representatives, two student representatives,
one representative from the Office of the Provost, and the
associate director of the CTE serve on the Executive Committee.
The CTE
Executive
Director serves as the chair.
Programs
Department heads are responsible for overseeing curriculum development and
monitoring for each of the 32 professional education preparation programs. Specific responsibility
for clinical
experience components of programs is assigned to Clinical
Experiences Program Coordinators. They are responsible
for placing candidates
in their field experiences and monitoring the completion
of their requirements as stated in the CTE Common Assessment
Plans (CAPs).
The most recent Illinois State Board of
Education accreditation review, conducted in April, 2002,
determined that the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and its
professional education
preparation programs be granted Continuing Accreditation
until the next regularly
scheduled review (Spring 2009). This status allows
the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to conduct
its approved programs
and recommend candidates for certification by entitlement.
Questions about CTE may be directed to Chris Roegge, the CTE
Executive Director. The Offices of the Council
are located at 505
East Green Street, Suite 203 (2nd Floor). |
