Join the Teaching Illini!

A new online community has been established for U of I students, faculty and alumni of our teacher preparation programs. The group is called 'the Teaching Illini' and it exists within the new Always Illinois community.  We hope the Teaching Illini will grow into a dymanic forum where connections are made and ideas are shared.

Change in Criminal Background Checks for Teacher Candidates

All teacher candidates are required to clear a criminal background check prior to their initial field experience in the schools.  Beginning in the Fall 2007 semester, fingerprint-based criminal background checks will replace the current name-based check.  Students who have not completed a background check prior to August 1 will be notified by the Council on Teacher Education of the schedule for fingerprint checks, which will be conducted at the Council offices at 505 E. Green, Suite 203.

Who Are We?

In addition, 78 were certified as School Social Workers; 15 as Speech/Language Pathologists; 27 as General Administrative; and 1 as Superintendent.

Career Services Joins CTE

The Educational Career Services Office (ECSO) is now a part of CTE.  ECSO will maintain their unique identity and continue to provide an array of career-related services to candidates in professional preparation programs and others interested in education-related careers.  At the same time, enhanced efficiency will enable us to address emerging needs such as following up with our graduates as they progress through their careers in the education system and other venues.  ECSO is located at 505 East Green, Suite 202.  Their web link is http://ecso.ed.uiuc.edu.

Programs Gear Up for Accreditation Review

With assistance from CTE, faculty and staff members from UIUC professional education programs have begun to prepare accreditation reports for the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), due in the spring of 2009.  Only programs approved by ISBE may prepare candidates for state certification, and these program reports are a major piece of the approval process.  CTE staff will be working with program writers throughout the fall semester to complete initial drafts of the reports, due December 15.
